Etiquette

Home Up Volunteers Etiquette Social Committee.

Etiquette can be described as the 'little courtesies' adopted during the course of play.
Courtesies which enable the game to be played in good spirit and avoids any misunderstandings
which may affect the game of bowls, or the friendly club spirit which exists within our club and also to avoid injury.

Dress

  1. Always make sure that you are dressed correctly - seek the advice of a committee member if you are unsure.
  2. Particular regulations apply to Men and Ladies respectively, so ensure you turn up in the appropriate attire!
  3. In general the regulations call for white from the waist up and grey from the waist down.
  4. White socks and white or brown specialist bowls shoes should be worn.
  5. Representative teams normally wear white trousers/skirt with club ties/scarves etc.

Conduct

  1. Keep still when your colleague or opponent is bowling.
  2. Don't carry on an active conversation when someone else is on the mat ready to bowl.
  3. Keep out of the line of sight of the active bowler, whilst waiting for your turn.
  4. Deliver your bowl carefully, don't throw it or bounce it into play.
  5. Don't walk up the rink after bowling as this distracts bowlers on other rinks.
  6. Give way to bowlers on adjoining rinks, who are already in the ready position as you get on to the mat.
  7. Never run on the rink!
  8. Always give notice if you intend to 'fire' so as to avoid injury to others.
  9. Don't 'crowd' around the head when the measure is being made.
  10. Avoid disagreements at all times.
  11. Be generous in your praise of a good shot.
  12. Clear the rink as soon as possible after play.

Bookings.

  1. Full members are allowed to book no more than two sessions in advance, at any one time during the week.
  2. The next session may be booked after the first of those booked sessions has been played.
  3. You may book as an individual but not on behalf of other members.
  4. If you cancel a booking then indicate withdrawal from the rink by placing one line through your name - don't delete it or make the entry unreadable.
